The school of information sciences through the dean prof James wamukoya have planned a tree planting day just beside the school of information sciences buildings where the acting vice chancellor is expected as the chief guest in the occasion.

The Moi university information sciences students association (MUISSA) was responsible on the necessary planning to ensure the day was a success. They sensitised students from the school to participate in the event by carrying the seedlings to the tree planting site, connecting a horse pipe from the school to supply water during the event.

The event that is scheduled in two weeks time is set to mark the 10th tree planting day in the school since it started in 1994 where the then president of the republic of kenya was daniel torotich arap Moi was the chief guest in the tree planting event

E ducation C.S in moi university

Kenyans education cabinet secretary Dr Alfred matiangi expected on Moi university for an oration organised by the university under the acting vice chancellor prof Laban Ayiro that is scheduled on the 17 october 2016 at the margaret thatcher library conference room.

The oration was meant to reflect and rededicate the institution to improve the education delivery and create connections between the ministry of education and the education ministry.

It is also aimed at directing funds from the education ministry to improve some services offered by the university such as library, engineering courses, accomodation infrastructure and security which some of the are crippled in the institution.

The king fails his subject

Moi university was hosting its annual cultural week that started on the Monday of 12 September to Friday 16 september.The event was sponsored by oppo-a mobile company, safari com through the blaze movement and the administration vie the university acting vice chancellor professor Laban Ayiro.

The event was focused on providing and opportunity for students to showcase their cultural diversities, both local and international cultures were portrayed. some of the local cultures were from the luyha, Abagusii, luo and Masai communities whereas the international culture were Tanzanians,Ugandans and the Rwandans.

The key event was actually the cultural festival gala that took place at the students center where the key guest of the night was the famous king kaka most known for some of the greatest hits such as BESHA SHIGHANA, DANDIA-featuring kristoff and frasha. King kaka was scheduled to be the key performer pf the night,this got all his fans(subjects) to win a ticket for the event

The eagerly awaited king for the night left all his fans in sad mood when he failed to show up for the event. The fans expressed their frustrations by rioting during the event that got them glued to their seats until 4am in the morning for nothing. Reasons behind king kaka disappointment of showing up to the event are still unknown.

The Gusii students meeting took a chaotic and unexpected turn yesterday at Seminar Room 6 at 6:30pm thereabouts. The meeting meant to unite Moi university students from the Gusii community ended contrary to their expectations when it was disrupted at its climax, thus taking a dramatic end. This was when all those who have political ambitions were asked to make themselves known to members. In the process, some allegedly drunken comrades who might have belong to one aspirant created a fracas.

The master of the day then asked the various aspirants to control their people and stand but the members in the house were not ready for talks. The aspirants who were to fund the end of semester Gusii party did not take the floor to address that as the members were already riled up. Despite the need for some aspirants to talk, disagreement reigned. Meetings to remedy the situation were then held in an effort to avoid further disintegration of the Gusii community but they didn’t yield any fruit.
GUSA subscribers appealed to their leaders to define the next move for this undoubtedly large community. They agreed to take rapid action and come up with immediate solutions that will ensure the betterment of and peace in the Gusii students’ community.

Indian dignitary in Moi university

Moi University is among six institutions set to benefit from a scholarship by the Indian government as was detailed by the country’s high commissioner.
Addressing invited guests and students at the institution during this year’s Festival of India in Kenya, Her Excellency Suchtra Durai noted the importance of the two countries coming together with the aim of improving education and technology.
“ Kenya and India have been partners in various aspects of developments in terms of economic growth and education being a major contributor to any country’s national growth, India will ensure that Moi as an institution of higher learning has improved learning conditions and structures,” she said.
The collaboration will see improvement of educational facilities specifically in the School of Engineering which has worn-out structures that does not commensurate to practical lessons students are supposed to acquire.
Welcoming the idea, Moi University Vice Chancellor Professor Laban Ayiro confirmed that staff members of the said school will have a chance to travel to India to learn more from their counterparts and thereafter incorporate what is a miss in the local education. He added that the University needed a clear direction as far as technology is concerned so that graduates from the institution are able to fit well in the global job market.
Also during the event the Managing Director of Rivatex urged the students to be taking their practical attachment under the firm in the process of improving in their skills. Rivatex is one of the textile industries that came to existence after the institution and India partnered together.
The ceremony that commenced with tree planting session also had book donations and cultural exchange. Performances were from India’s Alobo Naga & the Band, winners of MTV European award 2012 and Moi University Band.

Deal with the accomodation crisis

The Moi university hostel and accommodation management is doing commendable job in ensuring students accommodation needs are met to the latter. The hostel accommodation fees are affordable enough and they have thrived in ensuring the sanitation and general conditions of the hostels is splendid.

The accommodation system unlike in the past now allows the privately sponsored students to book rooms in the university halls of residence hence enabling the students to cut extra costs.

Despite these great efforts from the accommodation management and the university at large we still have an accommodation crisis as we all know the university has implemented a double intake system hence a high number of students are enrolled per year and as a result the hostels cannot accommodate the increasing student population. 

Even worse is that we are only three lots in a given session that is per semester and the situation is already worse, what if the system required all the four lots to be in session at a go?. It would be disasters in terms of accommodation.

The university need to take an action to deal with the accommodation crisis, the can start by completing some of the hostels that were left unfinished that is hostel M and alleged hostel I which its foundation was started and currently it has turned into a bush. They can also amend the double intake system so that the available hostels can manage the student’s population.

The university must deal with the accommodation crisis immediately as we are suffering. Some have to commute from town to school because the nearby rentals are full and those lucky enough to get them have to reside in high numbers of up to five in a room because they are really expensive they cannot meet the costs.
